The First Independent Company of Cavalry was a body of young men who served three months in West Virginia, at the outbreak of the war. Most of the men subsequently enlisted in the First Ohio Cavalry.From: The Military History of Ohio. H.H. Hardesty Publisher. New York, Toledo and Chicago. 1886
