History
Organized under General Fremont, in Missouri, originally under the name of the 13th Missouri, November 5th, 1861, it served with Grant at Fort Donelson and Shiloh. On the 7th of July, 1862, The Secretary of War ordered its transfer to Ohio, to be named the 22d Ohio Infantry. The Colonel and Lt. Col. having resigned, Major Oliver Wood assumed command and served under Rosecrans at Corinth. In June, 1863, it moved to Haines' Bluff, near Vicksburg, and in August to Arkansas. The 22nd remained in Arkansas until the expiration of its term of service, when it was mustered out November 18th, 1864.

22nd Regiment Infantry (3 Months). Organized at Camp Jackson, Columbus, Ohio, April and May, 1861. Moved to Parkersburg, W. Va., May 30, thence to Burning Springs and Elizabethtown, and to Three Forks. Attached to Cox's Brigade, District of the Kanawha, W. Va. Operations against guerrillas in Gilmer, Calhoun and Braxton Counties and railroad guard duty till August. Mustered out August 19, 1861.22nd Regiment Infantry (3 Years). Organized at Benton Barracks, Mo., as the 13th Missouri Infantry and mustered in November 5, 1861. Ordered to Cairo, Ill., January 26, 1862. Attached to 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, District of West Tennessee and Army of the Tennessee, to July, 1862.
