History

Mustered in at Columbus in May, 1864, 854 men, Colonel John Ferguson, and served on guard duty over government stores at Gallipolis, Ohio until there mustered out, August 24th, full strength, Colonel Ferguson commanding.

172nd Regiment Infantry. Organized at Gallipolis, Ohio, and mustered in May 14, 1864. Guard duty at Gallipolis till September. Mustered out September 3, 1864. Lost 12 Enlisted men by disease during service.
